When your dog has an ear infection, your vet will often prescribe antibiotic medication. And while the medication clears up the infection - which of course is everyone's goal - the medicine may actually bring many long-term side effects.

Pet owners and people in general  have become wary of the over-prescription of antibiotics as more and more antibiotic-resistant bacteria make headlines. In recent years natural antibiotics for dogs have been proven effective in helping fight infection and with fewer side effects.

Sometimes it may be necessary for your vet to prescribe antibiotics - synthetic, man-made medication - to cure serious infections that could possibly lead to permanent impairment or even fatal results. As an alternative, holistic remedies like our Pampered Pup Herbal Antibiotic contain different organic plant extracts chosen for their antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. While homeopathic remedies are not necessarily a complete substitute for prescription antibiotics, they haven proven effective and can be used to aid the healing process, help prevent future infections, and be an at-home treatment for less severe infections.

What Dog Ear Infections Look Like

The symptoms are fairly obvious and may start with your dog shaking or tilting her head. Upon examination of ear you may notice a brown discharge, redness, scabs on the inner ear, and an odor in the ear.

Causes of Dog Ear Infections

There are several causes of ear infections including bacteria, yeast, allergies and/or hormone imbalances.  CAUTION:  If your dog is having trouble with balance or walking in circles, or has unusual eye movements, these could be signs of a deeper infection and your dog should be checked by your vet.  ** If your dog already has a full-blown infection it is important to see a vet before using a holistic approach.

DIRECTIONS

Shake bottle well before each use. Apply serum twice daily.  Use for 10 consecutive days to allow infection to clear. Use at room temperature, or if preferred you can warm the serum slightly by holding the bottle under warm water for a minute or two. Gently clean dog's ear of any debris. Use dropper or cotton ball to insert drops into ear canal.  Gently massage outer ear, and wipe away any excess serum with tissue. Avoid touching dropper to discharge from ear. Wipe dropper with clean tissue before returning to bottle.

Dosage

Under 25 lbs apply 3 drops to each ear

25 to 50 lbs apply 1/2 dropper to each ear

Over 50 lbs apply 3/4 dropper to each ear

Discontinue use if ear appears more red or irritated after use as this may be a sign of allergic reaction. If irritation occurs, apply a plain carrier oil (jojoba, almond, or coconut oil) then wipe off residue. Do not use if ear drum is ruptured.  If symptoms persist or worsen, seek veterinary assistance.  Not for internal use. Does not require refrigeration. For canine use only.
